Lovely Green Tea Libations (aka incredible drinks!)

You can make smoothies, cocktails, and iced and hot teas with green tea – it’s opened up a whole new world of beverages so, let’s take advantage. Here are some of the most popular with their easy-to-prepare recipes.

Smoothies

Basic green tea smoothie

Combine equal parts of frozen banana (sliced), baby spinach, and green tea powder in a blender. Next, add green seedless grapes (1.5 times the amount of each other ingredient) and blend until smooth. For an icier smoothie, just add some small ice cubes or crushed ice before blending.

NOTE:  Green tea powder is also known as matcha powder.

Raspberry green tea smoothie.

First, make a cup of strong, hot green tea (any teabag version will work) and chill it in the refrigerator.

Next, you’ll want to put the tea, 1/3 cup of plain yogurt, 1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries, and one frozen banana into your blender.

For a final flourish, add a tablespoon of honey, 1/2 cup of ice, and 1/4-1/2 tsp. of vanilla to the blender. Blend and enjoy!

Cocktails

It’s 5:00 somewhere. Let’s do this!

Green tea vodka spritzer

An incredible summer drink or evening pick-me-up for a long night of dancing.

Gather these ingredients: two limes, vodka of your choice, green tea (already brewed), ginger ale, and ice. Add a 1/2 cup of ice, juice from two limes, a shot of vodka, two shots of green tea, and a splash (or more) of ginger ale to a tall rocks glass and stir until blended. Garnish with lime, pop in a straw, and enjoy.

Green tea peach julep

This one’s perfect for brunch! Mix the following ingredients to make 3-4 servings over ice.

  • 1 cup cooled green tea
  • 1 cup peach juice
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 4 oz. bourbon

Garnish with a lemon slice, sit back and sip your worries away.

Food Recipes with Green Tea

Basil green tea aioli (burger topping)

Here’s what you need for this fresh and tasty topping. Take a break from boring ketchup and mustard.

  • 5 basil leaves
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tbsp green tea powder
  • 1/2 tsp dijon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil

Using a food processor or blender, combine all ingredients, except olive oil, and mix. Slowly drizzle in a 1/4 cup of olive oil while processing until the oil is completely incorporated and the texture is thick. Liberally spread on your burgers.

Green tea donuts

First, make any cake donut recipe that you like, and add green tea powder to the batter recipe. The powder amount should exactly match the recipe’s amount of baking soda. Let the donuts cool completely.

For the glaze, you’ll need 2 cups of powdered sugar, 1/2 to1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder (to taste), and 1/4 cup boiling water. Whisk ingredients together, and let cool. Generously drizzle over each donut until the tops are completely covered in glaze. Enjoy!
