How To Make Iced Chai Tea Latte

If you enjoy iced chai tea latte when out and about, you might well want to have a go at making it yourself at home, and it really isn’t too hard! You’re going to be cold-steeping the tea, making a honey syrup, and then sitting back to enjoy it!

  1. Steep the tea: add the water and the teabags to a large jar and allow it to sit for at least 4 or 5 hours. You can leave the tea for longer; it will get stronger with more time.

  2. Create some honey syrup: you can do this while the tea is steeping. Mix the honey and some water in a small, microwavable container.

  3. Microwave it and then give it a quick little stir.

  4. Let it cool and then transfer it to the fridge. It will keep for up to a week.

  5. Remove the tea bags once the tea is about as strong as you like it, and then you’re ready to make your chai latte!

  6. Put a handful of ice cubes into a tall glass and pour some of the honey syrup in.

  7. Add a cup of your chai tea, and then add milk to taste.

  8. Stir and then taste it and add more honey or more milk if it needs either.

  9. Enjoy!

Iced Chai Tea Latte Recipe

The quantities you use will vary depending on how much iced chai tea latte you want to make, but having a basic recipe means you can scale up or down according to your situation.

Like me, you can choose to keep a jug in the fridge for whenever you fancy a cupful; as the teabags need time to cold-steep, this is a great way to ensure you’ve always got some ready.

Try this recipe and make your own iced chai tea latte:

  • 4 chai tea bags

  • 1 quart of water

  • ¼ cup of honey

  • ¼ up of water (as well as the quart; this is to mix with the honey)

  • Milk

The amount this makes will vary a little bit according to how much milk you add to each glass, but it should make around 4 servings. If you’re having a big party or you want plenty for later, consider doubling the recipe so you won’t run out. I do this nearly every time so I have enough in the fridge for hot summer days!

Iced Chai Tea Latte With Pumpkin Cold Foam

If you want a slightly more complicated twist on the iced chai tea latte, pumpkin cold foam is a wonderful topping, and it will taste just like a popular choice from a certain much-loved coffee chain!

The foam is a little bit more involved than the above recipe, but it’s a great way to bring a twist to the drink and will definitely impress your friends at a sunny barbecue. You can use the previous recipe for the main drink, and then follow the directions below for the topping.

Pumpkin cold foam recipe:

  1. Mix a cup of heavy whipping cream with half a cup of sweetened condensed milk in your blender.

  2. Add two teaspoons of vanilla extract, two teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice, and three tablespoons of pumpkin puree.

  3. Blend until it is thick and foamy, and then either refrigerate in an airtight container for up to a week, or use it instantly to top your chilled latte.

This is a great way to really make your latte special for days lounging in the garden, and it’s a lot simpler than it might initially seem! A perfect topping to a perfect drink.

Iced Chai Tea Latte With Pumpkin Spice

Another popular option is brought to us with the comings of autumn, pumpkin spice seems to pop up everywhere, and why not? It’s such a great flavor! Pumpkin spice might have been mixed with coffee first, but it’s a match made in heaven when coupled with chai tea.

It’s got real pumpkin in it, too!

You’re going to need chai tea bags, and then pumpkin puree, ground cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. You also want some brown sugar and vanilla extract and a milk of your choice.

  1. Steep your chai tea according to the earlier instructions.

  2. Mix the pumpkin puree and your spices in a small pot and warm them over a low heat for a few minutes, stirring so they don’t burn.

  3. Add the milk and brown sugar, and allow them to simmer for a few minutes. Add a splash of vanilla extract and keep stirring until everything is combined.

  4. Allow to cool; then add ice cubes to a glass, pour in some chai tea, and add your pumpkin-milk mix.

Iced Chai Tea Latte With Almond Milk

Almond milk is very popular at the moment, and it’s a breeze to make iced chai tea latte with. For any of the above recipes, you can sub in the same amount of almond milk as cow’s milk.

You might find you want to increase the quantity slightly to get the same creamy effect, or reduce it slightly if it’s too strong.

I love trying different plant milks out in these drinks; they mean a constantly changing array of flavors, and they’re better for the planet, too!

Some plant milks don’t enjoy being heated though, so you may have to experiment if you want to try the pumpkin spice recipe with a plant milk such as oat.

And so…

It’s amazingly easy to whip up an iced chai tea latte at home with just some water, tea bags, milk of your choice, and a sweetener you like. You can vary this drink to combine other flavors, or add almond milk or other plant milks to taste. What a great way to stay cool and refreshed in summer; I can’t get enough of it!
